About the House
From our century-old history rooted in Japanese culture and nature, to our Japanese spirits made with the finest attention to detail and craft, we invite you to explore the rich legacy of House of Suntory.
A House shaped by Wa: Harmony with Nature and People
Wa means harmony—a guiding idea at the heart of Japanese culture that brings balance across life. The original name of Japan, Wa reflects a philosophy of different elements working together in a harmonious manner that benefits all. You can feel Wa in the relationship between nature and people, in the use of space and simplicity, and in the changing seasons. It’s not about perfection or uniformity, but about knowing when to act, when to step back, and how each part contributes to the whole.
At The House of Suntory, Wa guides everything we do, bringing harmony between people, nature, and our whiskies. It starts with finding harmony with nature; the natural environment and pristine waters of Yamazaki, Hakushu and Chita, where each whisky begins its journey. It continues through craftsmanship, where tradition and innovation work in harmony, and through blending, where different elements are brought into perfect balance. This approach creates Japanese whiskies that are subtle and refined, yet complex—designed not to overwhelm, but to connect and resonate with a deeper harmony in each of us.
Our History
Since 1923, House of Suntory has pursued a singular ambition: to create an authentically Japanese whisky shaped by the country’s character and refined through a century of patient dedication. What began as founder Shinjiro Torii’s dream became a generational commitment to nuance, balance, and beauty in every detail.
At the heart of that beginning is a spirit often captured in the Kansai phrase Yatte Minahare: an encouragement to step forward, to try, to challenge. Guided by nature, Torii chose Yamazaki for its renowned water quality, distinctive climate, and the cadence of its seasons—elements that would lend subtlety and depth to the whiskies to come.

Our People
The best Japanese artisans never add or take away, only heighten the beauty and spirit that lives deep within every ingredient. At every stage in creating the whisky, this relationship between their craft, nature and humility inspires their uncompromising pursuit of taste.
That same sensibility is shaped by Omotenashi—a spirit of wholehearted hospitality expressed through attention to the smallest details in order to anticipate needs before they are spoken. At House of Suntory, Omotenashi is practiced by our people at every touchpoint: from the makers and master blenders who shape balance and nuance with the drinker in mind, to those who present, pour, and share our whiskies with quiet precision.
